Mundt, Carl (26 SEP 1839 - 6 SEP 1924)

Carl Mundt, one of the old settlers of the town of Fremont, Clark County, Wis., died on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Sept. 6, 1924, aged nearly 85 years. He was born in Germany Sept. 26, 1839, and came to Calumet Co., Wis., in 1868, and from Calumet Co. he came in 1882 to the town of Fremont, which remained his home for many years. His death took place at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Brandi of Granton, where he has been staying for some time past.

After coming to Clark County Mr. Mundt started in on a new farm and became a successful farmer and reared his family. He took an active interest in local affairs and for 12 years was treasurer of his school district. He was one of the beloved pioneers of his community, respected everywhere for his upright character.

Mr. Mundt was married in Germany Nov. 22, 1864 to Miss Austena Prust, who was his faithful helper in all the toils and trials of life. She died some years ago. To them were born seven children, of whom five are living: Matilda, Mrs. Brandt of Granton; Bertha, Mrs. Thompson of Milwaukee; John Mundt of Rockland, Wis.; Richard Mundt of New York and Charles Mundt of the town of Fremont. William and Robert are deceased. All the surviving children were in attendance at the funeral, which was held Monday forenoon from the home of the daughter, Mrs. Brandt, in Granton at the M. E. Church, Rev. Wilson Mallory preaching the funeral sermon. The pallbearers were Charles Wiesner, Thode Harriman, George Rose, Aug. Dankemeyer, Adolph Schune and H. Agin. The great gathering of friends and neighbors at the funeral testified to the esteem in which Mr. Mundt was held. Interment was made in the family lot at Chili.

Among those from a distance who came for the funeral were Mrs. Lee Rose and daughter Dorothea of Milwaukee, who remained for a visit at the home of Charles Mundt at Chili.
