Obit: Calway, Catherine (1842 - 1925)
Surnames: CALWAY RAINEY KLOPF ALLEN Source: NEILLSVILLE PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 02/12/1925 Calway, Catherine (14 AUG 1842 - 8 FEB 1925) Mrs. Catherine Calway passed away at her home in this city (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) Sunday night about 10 o'clock, Feb. 8, 1925, aged 82 years, 5 months and 24 days. Mrs. Calway, whose maiden name was Catherine Rainey, was born Aug. 14, 1842, at St. George's, Province of Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Robert and Hannah Ray Rainey. When a child she moved with her parents to Waterville, Maine, where she grew to womanhood. On Feb. 28, 1865, she was married to Samuel B. Calway in Canada. They moved to Neillsville in June 1869, and this remained her home until her death. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Calway, two of them dying in infancy and a daughter, Clementine, dying in 1894, at the age of 21 years. Mrs. Calway was a quiet, home loving woman. Her finest qualities of mind and heart were well known to all who came in close contact with her, either in her home or as a near neighbor. Naturally retiring in her tastes and habits, especially in later years, her rewards for a life's work well done came largely in the love and care of those who ministered to her needs in her declining years. Mr. Calway died last September. She is survived by four children, Albert W. Calway, who was with her in the home; Walter Calway of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. A. C. Klopf of Neillsville, and Forrest D. Calway, Neillsville. She leaves also five grandchildren, Bernice Calway Allen, Charleston, West Va.; Vern Calway, Portland, Oregon; Cleon Calway, San Francisco; Kelvin Klopf and Vahla Catherine Klopf, Neillsville; also one great-grandchild, daughter of Vern Calway. The funeral will be held this Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, at the home, Rev. Longenecker officiating. |
