Nickel, Augusta (7 SEP 1855 - 28 MAR 1928)

Mrs. Augusta Nickel passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Ottow in the town of Washburn, Clark County, Wis., on Wednesday, March 28, 1928, aged 72 years, 6 months and 21 days. Her health had not been good for several years, but within the past four weeks heart trouble increased, finally proving fatal.

Mrs. Nickel was born in Germany Sept. 7, 1855. She grew to womanhood there and was there married to August Nickel Feb. 3, 1881. Nine years later they migrated to America, landing in this country May 12, 1890. They settled first at Lake Mills, Wis., living there 12 years. They then moved to Clark County and bought a farm in the town of Washburn, which remained their home until the death of Mr. Nickel, Dec. 8, 1923. Since his death Mrs. Nickel has made her home with her children, spending most of the time at the home of her daughters, Mrs. Wm. Ottow and Mrs. Peter Hohenstein in the town of Washburn.

Mrs. Nickel was a woman who was well liked by all who knew her. She was a kind and helpful wife, a loving mother and an obliging neighbor.

She leaves to mourn her death five daughters and one son; Mrs. Anna Stokes, Waterloo, Wis.; Herman Punsel, Cambridge; Mrs. Ida Ottow, town of Washburn; Mrs. C. Strobush, Madison; Mrs. Mary Hohenstein, town of Washburn; Mrs. Ella Palmer, Detroit, Mich. She leaves also two brothers and one sister in Germany, and another sister in this country. She leaves also 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon, short services being held at the Wm. Ottow home, and the longer services at the Reformed Church in Neillsville, rev. Caleb Hauser officiating.

Those from away who were here to attend the fuenral were: Mrs. Herman Stelse and Mrs. Frank Drager, sister, from Lake Mills; Carl Regenberg, a brother from Clinton, Wis.; Mrs. Anna stokes, daughter, of Waterloo, Wis.; Herman Punsel, son, of Madison. The daughter, Mrs. Dan Palmer of Detroit was here to visit the mother previous to her death, but was obliged to return home.
