News: Black River Falls Paper (1926)
Source: Neillsville Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) Thursday, 03/11/1926 BLACK RIVER FALLS PAPER CONSOLIDATE In its issue of last week the Badger Banner of Black River Falls announces that George F. Cooper had sold the Banner to Merlin Hull, proprietor of the Jackson County Journal, and the two papers will be consolidated under the name of the Banner-Journal. The Banner had been in existence about 70 years. Mr. Cooper has been in the Banner office 52 years 14 years in company with his father, Frank Cooper, and the remainder of the time as sole owner. The elder Cooper ad been on the Banner from 1857, except for a time during the Civil War, so the destinies of the paper had been in the hands of the Cooper family during the most of it existence. Geo. F. Cooper had been an able and conscientious newspaper ma, and has well earned some years of rest and freedom from responsibility during the rest of his life. There is no question that the consolidation will be an economic gain for the community. Black River Falls like Neillsville, can be best served by one paper. Duplication in the end must come out of the community, and eventually the consolidation will work out to the advantage of all concerned. Merlin Hull is a man still vigorous and energetic and in the enlarged field will find scope for the best that is in him. |
