Meier, William F. (24 JAN 1853 - 26 OCT 1928)

William F. Meier, one of the oldest settlers in the town of Levis, Clark County, Wis., died at his home in that town on Friday, Oct. 26th, 1928. He had not been in good health for some time, but had been up and around the house until quite recently.

William Frederick Meier was born in Germany, Jan. 24, 1853. He grew to manhood there and was there married to Lena Kelpin in 1876. In 1882 they came to the United States and after renting a farm near Granton for one season, they moved to the town of Levis and settled there on a tract of wild land, which they developed by their toil and industry into a good farm.

Mrs. Meier died July 22, 1906. On Sept. 28, 1908 he was married to Mrs. Mary Zickmund, who survives him.

To his first marriage 9 children were born, 4 of whom died when quite young. Those who survive are Henry, Herman, Adolph and Albert, and one daughter, Mrs. Henry Seidelmann. He leaves also 10 grandchildren, one sister living in Detroit, Mich., and a step-daughter, Mrs. Ernest Ott.

Mr. Meier was a man who did much by his industry in pioneer days to develop the community. He was an accommodating neighbor, honest and upright in his dealings and a good citizen in every way.

The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon, Rev. Wm. A. Baumann officiating. His four sons-in-law were pallbearers. Burial took place in the Levis Cemetery.
