Iverson, John A. (9 NOV 1859 - 17 JUN 1929)

John A. Iverson, an old and honored resident of the town of Dewhurst, Clark County, Wis., died at his home in that town, Monday forenoon, June 17, 1929, after a lingering illness.

John Alexander Iverson was born in Green County, Wis., Nov. 9, 1859; his parents being natives of Norway, who settled there in 1840. Here he grew to manhood and helped develop the home farm. He attended the district school and for four years had a position with the McCormick Binder Co., in Milwaukee. He then entered Milton College. When he had completed three years of his college course his father died and he had to come home and help carry on the farm.

For three years he carried on a rented farm in Green County. He was married Jan. 4, 1856 to Miss Emma Golackson, who survives him. In 1894 they came to Clark County and entered as a homestead 160 acres in Section 14, town of Dewhurst, and began anew a pioneer life. Mr. Iverson was a hard worker and a good farmer and developed this tract of land into a very fine and picturesque place. It is known as the Mound View Farm.

Soon after coming here Mr. Iverson began to take an active part in public affairs, being a member of the Columbia School Board and interest in town affairs. In 1903 he was elected Chairman of the town of Dewhurst and served most of the time until the present year. In 1905 he was elected County Coroner and served several terms. He was a man of refined and scholarly tastes, quiet and modest in manner, and while a man of fine education, he made no display of his attainments. He lived an honest, upright life.

Besides his wife he leaves one son, Roy, of the town of Dewhurst, and one daughter, Ruth, Mrs. Iver Christofferson of York.

The funeral will be held at the Columbia Chapel at 2 o'clock, Friday afternoon, Rev. W. Motzkus of Globe, officiating.
