Pietenpol, Ellen J. (18 AUG 1864 - 15 JUL 1929)

Mrs. John Pietenpol died at her home in the town of York, Clark County, Wis., in the early hours of Monday, July 15, 1929. Although she had not been in good health for some time, her death came quite unexpectedly to many of her friends. Mrs. Pietenpol, whose maiden name was Ellen Jeanette Davis, was born in St. Lawrence County, N.Y., Aug. 18, 1864. She was the daughter of Fred W. and Ruth Lee Davis. When she was a small child she came to Clark county, Wis. with her parents and grew up on the farm at Windfall Corners, near the present village of Granton. She attended the school there and later taught school at Heathville and in what is known as the Franklin School in the town of Fremont.

On Sept. 19, 1893, she was married to John W. Pietenpol, and soon after they went to live on the farm in Section 34, town of York, which has been their home ever since. To Mr. and Mrs. Pietenpol were born six children, one of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are Ruth, Frederick, Bernard, Marjorie and Josephine. Marjorie, now Mrs. Harold Trewartha, lives at Palmer, Mich.; the others are all at home with their father. Mrs. Pietenpol leaves also one grandchild, Hlen, and five brothers, Frank W., Scott, Truman, Louis and Hale Davis.

Mrs. Pietenpol was a lady of keen intelligence and an appreciation of the finer things of life. She cooperated with her husband in the development of their fine farm and beautiful home, and was a most devoted and loving mother. She will be greatly missed, in the home most of all, but also beyond that by the community and by friends far and away.

The funeral was held Wednesday, July 17. All the children were in attendance at the funeral, also all her brothers except Louis, who could not be present. Rev. S. J. Lambright of Neillsville preached the funeral sermon.
