10 YEARS AGO June 25, 1992 Valerie and Sheila Mohr recently competed at the International Accelerated Christian Education student convention held at the University of Texas in Denton, Texas.

25 YEARS AGO June 16, 1977 It is hard to believe, but the Albert Regals and their five children escaped uninjured early Wednesday morning when their home exploded and burst in flames. An explosion, believed to have been caused by a propane gas leak, literally blew the home to bits. When the Stanley Fire Department got there the house was completely engulfed by flames. The blast was so intense that one complete wall was blown quite a distance from the foundation.

Ron Duce has taken over the Mobil station on the comer of Franklin Street and County Highway X, and is now called Ron's Mobil. Duce will be doing repair work as well as selling gas, oil and other motoring necessities.

Harold Bernklau and Clement Bruzan have announced the opening of a new business, Stanley Building Supply. The new business is located on the service road off Highway 29 past the Delmar Sawmill.

40 YEARS AGO June 28, 1962 Lightning struck Martin Smithrud's year-old barn late Saturday afternoon and burned. Several calves were saved, but a bull burned with the barn. All other buildings were saved.

60 YEARS AGO June 26,1942 Gerald O. Thorpe, former Stanley boy and executive officer of the Lumbermen's National Bank at Chippewa Falls, was elected president of the Wisconsin Bankers Association at the annual meeting held in Milwaukee.

Gilbert M. Olson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Olson of Worden, was aboard the carrier Lexington when it sank in the Battle of Coral Sea. Olson swam to a nearby destroyer after abandoning ship.

70 YEARS AGO June 24, 1932 Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Sneen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

100 YEARS AGO June 28, 1902 John Hall has remodeled his store front and put in a large plate glass show window, which greatly adds to the appearance of the building.

Steve Brittian had the misfortune to get his hand caught in the rolling machine at the tannery Tuesday morning, smashing it quite badly.

Miss Edna Dunn wishes to announce the that she is now ready to start her music class. All those wishing to take lessons should call and see her at the Hotel Maine.
