Surnames: BEIL SCHLINSOG DANKEMYER DOEHR MONTAG Source: Town of Fremont History - 1973 Beil Family, Adolph On July 10, 1911, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Beil and two children, Hilda (Mrs. Harold Montag), and Arwin, moved from the village of Lynn to the Town of Fremont, Clark County, Wis., to an 80-acre farm a mile east and 1/4 mile north of Chili. There were only a few acres tillable at that time. Later 40-acres were added to the farm. Mrs. Beil and son Arwin still live on that farm. The barn on the picture was used until 1918 when a new barn was built. Neighbors told them that the old log barn was originally used by the Indians as a cooking shanty for loggers. Mr. Beil was born in Calumet County on April 10, 1879. He was a painter and interior decorator by trade when he came to Clark County in 1905. He pursued that trade for many years after he began farming. He was the chairman of the Town of Fremont for 15 years and also supervisor for a time. He also served on the Forest Side School Board, was a director in the Chili Co-op Cheese Factory for many years. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Chili, and served on the church Council. He died Oct. 7, 1962. Mrs. Beil was born Laura Schlinsog in the Town of Grant in 1887. She is a member of the Forest Side Homemakers club, and a charter member of the Christ Lutheran Ladies Aid Society. She held several society offices during the 45 years she was a member. She and her four children are all members of Christ Lutheran Church in Chili. Two daughters were born to them after moving tot he Town of Fremont, Esther (Mrs. Gerald Dankemyer), living in Neillsville, and Hazel (Mrs. Lyle Doehr), living in the Town of Fremont. Mrs. Beil has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. |
