Burke, Frances J. (27 DEC 1926 - 14 AUG 2004)

Frances “Fran” Jenny Burke, 77, Spencer, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Wells Nature View, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer. The Rev. Charles Stoetzel officiated. Burial was in West Spencer Cemetery , town of Sherman, Clark County.

Frances Sawczuck was born on Dec. 27, 1926, to Frank and Anna (nee Siemenuk). She was a 1945 Thorp High School graduate. She married John “Jack” Burke on Nov. 4, 1950, at St. Helwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp. She worked at the Spencer bowling alley for two years and for Land O’ Lakes for 20 years. Her interests included traveling, sports (a Packer fan), bowling, cross country skiing, sewing and reading. She was a former member of the 3rd Tuesday Homemakers Club. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the ladies PCCW, where she served two terms as vice president and one term as president. Family meant everything to her, and she will be missed by her children and grandchildren. Her favorite quote was, “I asked God for everything so I could enjoy life. God saved me life so I could enjoy everything.”

Survivors include her five daughters, Carol (Dave) Krause, Wausau, Doris Burke, Wausau, Teresa Burke, Wausau, Betty (Dale) Michalek, Lino Lakes, Minn., and Ann (Thomas) Rogers, Howards Grove; two sons, Jim Burke, Marshfield, and John (Beth) Burke, Wausau; seven grandchildren, Kathy Krause, Brian Krause, Lara Burke, Eileen Burke, Jessica Michalek, Stacy Michalek, and Christopher Michalek; one step-grandson, Eric Michalek; and one brother, John Sawczuk, Thorp.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jak Burke, on March 19, 2002; one son, Tommy; four sisters, Helen Koperski, Regina Burzyinski, Marie Wiebe, and Rose Strojny; and three brothers, Stanely Sawczuk, Joe Sawczuk, and Edward Sawczuk.

Community Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements.
