Source: Personal news article collection of Millie Lee STEFFEN-MONTAG Marshfield Graduate, Lindsey Man are Wed Saturday The first marriage ceremony solemnized in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chili, built 26 years ago, took place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, when Miss Geneva MONTAG, Chili, was married to Elmer STEFFEN, Lindsey. Miss MONTAG, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman MONTAG and graduate of Marshfield High School in 1938, was baptized, confirmed, and married in the same church. Mr. STEFFEN is the sone of Mr. and Mrs. John STEFFEN, Lindsey. The Rev. Arthur H. LAESCH officiated at the nuptials. The bride wore a gown of white slipper satin fashioned on princess lines. Her long veil was attached to a headdress of seed pearls, and she carried a bouquet of pink and white sweet peas and other flowers. She was attended by Miss Elsi STEFFEN, sister of the groom, who acted as maid of honor. She wore peach slipper satin, and carried a bouquet of mixed flowers, with purple asters predominating. The bridesmaids, Misses Ruth COFFIN and Olive MUIR, were attired in teal blue slipper satin dresses with matching headbands. Their bouquets were similar to the maid of honor's. The groom was attended by Victor MONTAG, brother of the bride, Albert STEFFEN, Lindsey, brother of the groom, and Ray WELLNER, also of Lindsey. After the ceremony the bridal party went to the home of the bride's parents at Chili, where a reception was held and a wedding supper was served to 48 guests. The home was decorated with pink and blue paper streamers and white wedding bells. A large white decorated wedding cake served as centerpiece on the table. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Walter STEFFEN, Glencoe, IL; Mr. and Mr4s. Raymond CANFIELD, Winnetka, IL; Mr. and Mrs. John STEFFEN, Lindsey; Mr. and Mrs. Henry SHIER and family, Lynn; Victor HANSEN, Wisconsin Rapids; Mrs. Otto BULGRIN, Nasonville; Mr. and Mrs. Charles FENSKE, Herbert FENSKE, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest MONTAG, Mr. and Mrs. Craig MONTAG, Mrs. Otto RUSCH, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold MONTAG and son, Elgene. |
