Mrs. Johanna Kearney, age 73, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, at 2:30 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Hemp, 218 North Hewett Street, following an illness of three moths duration.

Mrs. Kearney was born in Germany on May 23, 1858. In 1888 she with her four children came to America to be near her brother and sister who had been here for several years.

In 1890 she was married to Barney Kearney and to this union four children were born.

Surviving relatives are seven children, Alvina, Mrs. Henry Bethe; Anna, Mrs. Edward Hernke, Milwaukee; William H. Lance, Green Bay; Fred Lance, Milwaukee; Mary Ida Kearney, Milwaukee; Kathryn J., Mrs. William Hemp, Neillsville; Arthur W. Kearney, Merrillan. Margaret, preceded her in death at the age of seven. Two sisters are still living in Germany. Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive her. Her husband preceded her in death having been stricken with apoplexy and died Jan. 6, 1913.

Mrs. Kearney was a lady of quiet, home-loving tastes, devoted to her family; a kind friend and neighbor and was well liked by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the home and at 2 o’clock from the Reformed church of which the deceased was a member. Rev. Edwin H. Vornholt officiated. Burial was in the family lot at Neillsville Cemetery.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mary Ida Kearney, Mr and Mrs. H. L. Bethe and son Elmer; Mr and Mrs. Edward Hernke and daughters Beatrice and Irma and son Herbert; Fred Lance and Miss Gusta Bethe all of Milwaukee; Mr and Mrs. Wm. Lance, Green Bay; Mr and Mrs. Arthur Kearney, Mr and Mrs. Clair Van Sycle; Mr and Mrs. Edward Pearson, Mr and Mrs. Walter Granger all of Merillan; Mr and Mrs. Fred Fubke, Beloit; Mr and Mrs. Fred Reasa, Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Martha Berger, Portage; Mr and Mrs. Harry Darling and Mrs. Thomas Bartlett, Eau Claire.
