Huckstead, Alonzo (? - October 6, 1944)

Alonzo T. Huckstead, 84, of Neillsville, died Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock at his home. He had been ill the past six weeks.

The body is lying in state at the Lowe Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. G. W. Longenecker, Congregational pastor, will officiate, and burial will be made in the Neillsville cemetery.

Alonzo Thomas Huckstead came with his parents from new York to Wisconsin when he was two years old. he worked as a carpenter early in life and was employed in the erection of many buildings in this community.

He was a former partner of Antone Barton in the wagon building business, Neillsville, and later went to Cameron, where he remained until 1914. At this time he returned to this community and resided on his farm in the Town of Grant, where he stayed until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Town Board for two terms, and also was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

His wife, the former Phoebe Hoag, whom he married in 1893, preceded him in death 13 years ago.

Surviving are a brother, Arlo Huckstead, Town of Grant; and adopted daughter, married Strohecker, teacher at Gilman, Ill.; and Clifford Nelson, now located at Jefferson, who lived with the family for many years.

Also preceding him in death are a brother, Edward; two half-brothers, William and John Vine, and a half-sister, Elizabeth Benedict.
