Elfert, Christina (11 JUN 1853 - 22 FEB 1924)

Mrs. Joseph Elfert died Feb. 22, 1924 in St. Joseph Hospital at Mankato, Minn., of gall, liver and kidney trouble.

Services were held Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 o'clock by the married ladies Sodality and Holy Family Society of St. Peter's and Paul's Church; at 4 o'clock the Degree of Honor held their services.

Monday, Feb. 25 at 9 o'clock the funeral services were conducted at St. Peter's and Paul's Church and she was laid at rest in Calvary Cemetery.

Christina Minkler was born at Delphis, Ohio, June 11, 1863, and was 60 years, 8 months and 11 days at time of death.

Sept. 25, 1883, she was united in marriage to Joseph Elfert at Mankato, Minn. Directly after their marriage they moved to Hanson Co., S.D., where they lived 21 years, then they moved to Dorchester, Clark County, Wis. and here they lived 9 years, then back to Mankato where they have since resided, it being about 11 years since they moved.

Nine children were born to them, 2 dying in infancy, and one son and six daughters are left to mourn, the children are Frank Elfert, Rose Elfert, Mrs. Romaine Morehouse and Mrs. Leo Miller, all of Mankato, Mrs. Jake Kramer of Alexandria, S.D., Mrs. Frank Wiese of Abbottsford and Mrs. Frank Weber of Dorchester.

Mrs. Elfert was taken ill in the early winter and at Christmas time all her children gathered at her bedside but she rallied and they hoped they might keep her with them many years yet, but it was to be and Feb. 9 she took a turn for the worse and less than two weeks later she slipped and out into the great beyond where sickness and sorrow never can come.

The son and wife, the daughters and husband were all present at the funeral excepting one son-in-law Frank Wiese of Abbotsford, who being injured in camp a short time before was at Ashland Hospital at the time.

Besides the husband and children she leaves 20 grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother to mourn the loss of one who made happy those about her. But the mother hands are folded and the beloved voice is stilled, but "though we mourn through the night, joy cometh in the morning," that beautiful morning, when we shall all meet again.

Other relatives present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Volland, Mrs. Mary Kissinger, Mrs. John Plagmann and an old friend, Mrs. Clara Reichling.
