Gottschalk, Gladys (18 Aug. 1930 - 12 Oct. 1998)

Colby- Gladys Gottschalk, 68, Colby, died Oct. 12,1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Neumann officiating. Burial will be at Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Community Funeral Home and again one hour before service time Wednesday at the church. A VFW Auxiliary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gladys was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Mayville to Fred and Emma (nee Smith) Schmidt. She had attended elementary schools at Greenwood and was a graduate of Colby High School.

She married Carl Gottschalk on June. 3, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Gladys had worked as a waitress, was a store manager for Marshfield Oil, and had worked at Spencer IGA, Helder's Grocery and Prein's Hardware in Colby.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its sewing circle; the VFW Auxiliary Post 2227 of Colby and was a member of a homemaker's club.

Surviving are her three daughters, Carol Neitzel of Lewistown, Mont., Donna (Greg) Del Fatti of Houston, Texas and Eileen (Richard) Allen of College Station, Texas; two sons David Gottschalk of College Station, Texas and Dale Gottschalk of Ironwood, Mich. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren, LaVonne Fachner, Cameron Neitzel, Giavonna, Niccola and Alicia Del Fatti, Jennifer Raasch, Jason, Jessica and Jeremy Lyon, and Bryant and Tyler Gottschalk; two sisters, Lydia (Clarence) Bennet of Marshfield and Catherine "Kitty" Stein of Madison; and three brothers, Henry (Minnie) Schmidt of Towner, N.D., Lester (Dorothy) Schmidt of Boise, Idaho, and Fred (Dee) Schmidt of Mayville.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; and four sisters, Clara, Luella, Elsie and Lucille.

*Personal notes: Gladys Schmidt Gottschalk is my (Crystal McDonald Wendt) great aunt. Her brother; Lester Schmidt is my grandpa. If anyone has connections to this family I would love to hear from you. Carl Gottschalk had died Apr 04, 1995.
