Empey, Avenelle 'Evie' (1 April 1920 - 9 Feb. 2005)

ABBOTSFORD -Avenelle "Evie" Empey, 84, of Abbotsford died Wednesday Feb. 9, 2005, at Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday Feb. 12, 2005, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dorchester. The Rev. Jerome Friemuth will officiate.

Burial will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Paul Empey, Bob Empey, Jon Empey, Chris Ploeckelman, Gene Empey, Douglas Empey, Ryan Empey, Tommy Ploeckelman, Nicholas Empey, Jamie Ploeckelman and Roger Empey.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.

Maurina/Community Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Evie was born April 1, 1920, in Beloit to George and Emma (Guse) Bender. Evie and Eldred Empey were married on May 4, 1939, at her parents' home. They farmed in the town of Holton, Marathon County, until 1973 when they moved to Spirit Lake. She worked at the Rib Lake Shoe Factory for several years and moved back to Dorchester in 1986.

Evie was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Peter Sewing Circle and a longtime member of the Holton Homemakers. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, cooking, gardening, sewing quilts and spending time with her family and friends.

Evie is survived by her children, George (Mary) Empey of Athens, Larry (Diann) Empey of Colby, Allen (Donna) Empey of Marshfield, Roger (Judy) Empey of Abbotsford and Nancy (Dale) Ploeckelman of Abbotsford; a brother, Melvin (Elaine) Bender of Mosinee; a sister, Virginia Slatwood of Florida; 17 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldred; two brothers, Myron and Henry Bender; one sister, Florence Denzine; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
