Chamberlin, Lot E. (15 JAN 1853 – 7 MAR 1929)

Lot E. Chamberlin was a son of Horace and Marietta Chamberlin of Plattsburg, N. Y. where he was born Jan. 15, 1853.

At the age if 13 he came to Rockford, Ill., and a few years later began his life as a jeweler at Columbus, Ohio, where he worked as an apprentice for 3 years, continuing in this line at Springfield, Peoria, and Elgin, Ill. In Dec. 1891 he came to Loyal and established himself as a jeweler in Mulvey’s Drug Store. Three years later on Aug. 2, 1894, he was married to Miss Adeline Lenling, they taking up their residence in the present building on Main Street. In 1917 he built the bakery, which was operated in connection with the jewelry business until 1924, when he moved to Madison.

He was one of the oldest business men in Loyal, having been identified with the business interests here for over 34 years and during these years of his residence here his uprightness and business integrity was above reproach. He was devoted to his home and was a kind and loving husband and father and gained the respect of all with whom he came in contact.

He passed away at his home in Madison, on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock March 7th, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 22 days.

Mr. Chamberlin is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. V. C. Richardson of Loyal, Leena of Madison, and one son Harlow of Madison and one grand daughter, Winifred Richardson, of Loyal. An infant son Edgar, his second child preceded him in death.

His lodge affiliations were with Modern Woodman of America and Mystic Workers. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon and was largely attended, Rev. G. C. Wadding officiating, assisted by Rev. Kundert of Madison. The pall bearers were J. H. Etta, Earl Gwin, Ray Prior, J. McGonigal, M. J. Christenson and Arthur E. Darton. Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery.

The out of town relatives aside from the immediate family who attended the funeral were, Mrs. Bertha Hills, Tripoli, Mr. Albert Lenling, Colfax, Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Lindner, Mrs. Margaret Lenling, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schoch, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rau, and Mr. Will Lenling, all from Mosinee.
