News: Dorchester, Christmans & Vogels (1909)
Surnames: CHRISTMAN VOGEL FOWLER Source: CLARK COUNTY HERALD (Dorchester, WI) 01/15/1909 Christman, Peter, Joseph and Anton (1909) Vogel, Mattie and Henry (1909) The Supreme Court this week affirmed the verdict in the Circuit Court of this county against Peter, Joseph and Anton Christman and Mattie and Henry Vogel. This has been a long and hotly contested case. The defendants were found guilty of rape by the jury Jan. 12, 1908. A motion for a new trial was decided against them on March 16 by Judge Fowler who sentenced them to ten years each in the Reformatory at Green Bay. They appealed to the Supreme Court, got a stay of proceedings and were released on $15,000 bail. It will be about 30 days before the records are returned to the Clerk of the Court and then commitments will be made out and they will be taken to the Reformatory.- Rep. & Press.
