Drescher, Linna ( 12 May 1854 - 16 Sept. 1932)

Linna Jahr, the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Christian Jahr, was born in Trenton Township, Washington County, Wisconsin on May 12th, 1854, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julius Drescher in the Town of Grant on Friday, Sept. 16th, 1932, age 78 years, 4 months, and 4 days.

Mrs. Drescher’s childhood and youth were spent in Washington County, where she received her education and where she was converted and joined the membership of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

On May 3, 1873, she was married to Louis Drescher, and lived near Newberg, Wis., for about five years. At the end of the time, July, 1878, Mr and Mrs. Drescher came to Clark County and lived for a time with Mr. Drescher’s parents in the Town of Grant. About 1881, they bought land nearby, built a log house for themselves, and moved to the farm which has been Mrs. Drescher’s home for the past 52 years.

Mr and Mrs. Drescher have been pioneer people in this community, knowing the experiences of hard work, much sacrifice, and the joy that comes from worthy accomplishments. While they were busy breaking and clearing land and raising a family of six girls they always found time for the spiritual things of life. They attended the German Evangelical church which used to be located two miles east of Kurth’s Corner, when services were held there, and later attended the Ridge church. Prayer meetings and Sunday School services were held in their homes of neighbors where help was needed and to minister to those who were sick. Mr. Drescher died May 1, 1929.

Mrs. Drescher had a fine Christian spirit. During the recent years, while health has been failing, she has been confined to her home rather closely, but her consciousness of God’s presence and her faith in Him has never grown dim. Rather as the years have come and gone, “The Lord has been (more and more) her light and her salvation.” She has known Him whom she has believed, and she was persuaded that He was able to keep that which she had committed unto Him against that day.”

Mrs. Drescher leaves a great spirtiual heritage to six daughters: Lydia, Mrs. Julius Drescher of the Town of Grant; Hulda, Mrs. Gustav Seefeld of VanDyne, Wisconsin; Anne, who has been at home with her mother, Emma, who has been a nurse at Jackson, Michigan, and returned home to care for her mother in her closing days; Jennie of Oshkosh, who has also been at home recently; and Flarie, Mrs. M. Walder, of Baldwin Park, California.

Mrs. Drescher is survived by there six daughters, one brother, Emil Jahr of Neillsville; six half sisters, one half brother, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
