Obit: Campbell, Charles E. (? – 1930)
Surnames: BERTZ CAMPBELL ---------Source: LOYAL TRIBUNE (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) 02/13/1930 --------- Campbell, Charles E. (? – 16 JAN 1930) Mrs. Peter Bertz received the sad news of the death of her brother, who is well known here, Charles E. Campbell, a resident of Missoula, Montana. The locomotive of which he was engineer was derailed a mile east of Lookout, Thursday, Jan. 16. Mr. Campbell was scalded, then frosted and suffered a broken skull, being crushed underneath the weight of the engine. Mr. Campbell entered the service of the Northern Pacific as a fireman on July 28, 1906. He was promoted to engineer in August 1916. In May, 1918, he enlisted in the U.S. army and did not return to service with the railway until Feb. 1, 1919. He was 44 years of age and is survived by his wife. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 19, and burial in Missoula Cemetery. Members of the organization of railroad engineers acted as pall bearers. The initratory step of the funeral arrangements were taken by the Engineer’s Lodge and due respect was paid by all to the deceased. Both praise and name of the latter spread immediately through all sections of both city and country homes. Further expression of their esteem was wonderfully displayed by the innumerable floral offerings, not only by the relatives but also by many others, some of whom live in the state. The Tribune joins in offering sympathy to the bereaved and friends in Montana. |
