(6 JUN 1908 – 22 APR 2005) Agnes Rose Messer, 96, formerly of Spencer, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Continental Manor, Abbotsford, where she resided since November 2000. A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 25, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer. The Rev. Charles Stoetzel officiated. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Agnes Rose Sauter was born June 6, 1908, in the town of Holton, Marathon County, to August and Rose (nee Laurich) Sauter. She attended the local country school, then worked as a domestic cook in Chicago for a while. She married A. E. M “Brownie” Messer (a Spencer mail carrier) on June 17, 1930, at St. Louis parsonage, Dorchester. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, sewing, and hands-on crafts. She was also quite a seamstress, sewing all her granddaughter’s first communion dresses. She was a member of Christian Mothers that later changed to the PCCW, an American Legion Auxilliary member, St. Christina Mission Group and she also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul. Survivors include two daughters, Audrey (Herbert) Meyer, Marshfield, and Mary Ann (Robert) Endreas, Spencer; one son, Ernest (Donna) Messer, Beloit; 15 grandchildren, Nancy (Bill) Kautza, Steven Endreas, Michael (Bev) Endreas, Susan (Randy) Cournoyer, Cheryl (Phil) White, Julie (Ted) Steiner, Janet Meyer, Dr. James Meyer, Karen (Scott) Freeberg, Ken Meyer, Robert (Sarah) Meyer, Rebecca (Kent) Langfoss, Jeff (Lisa) Messer, Jerry (friend, Paula) Messer, and Jennifer (friend, Dean) Messer; and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Brownie, on May 26, 1978; three brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren. Community Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements. |
