HERMAN KRUEGER KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT

This community was greatly shocked Sunday afternoon when word was received of an automobile accident, which caused the instant death of Mr. Herman Kruger and the serious injury to eight people

The accident occurred on a level stretch of pavement between Blenker and Milladore. The Kruger car going east collided head-on with a car going west that was attempting to pass another car. According to an eye witness and police, Koller, driver of the west bound car, endeavored to pass car on highway 10, swung over to the left side of the road and crashed into the car driven east by Kruger.

Mr. Kruger’s body was so wedged into the wreckage of his car that it could not be extricated for more than an hour. His jugular vein was severed by the steering column, causing instant death. He was still grasping the remaining fragment of the steering wheel when found.

Mrs. Herman Kruger sustained a fractured arm and scalp wounds. Gilbert Kruger sustained a dislocated hip, a deep scalp wound, and cuts. His wife was likewise cut about the body. Their daughter Jean age 9, was cut about the face and head, while their son Jack, 21 months old, is in serious condition, with a fractured skull.

Mrs. Jacob Kromer, of Appleton, Wis., mother of Mrs. Gilbert Kruger, sustained a very severe scalp wound, and is serious condition.

Charles Koller, 24, driver of the other car, and Joseph Brandl, 28, of Milladore, a passenger, both suffered serious injuries and are in a critical condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield.

County Motorcycle Officer, Tony Hanson, reported finding an empty bottle, smelling of liquor, in the Koller car. Officer Hanson said both Dr. Vedded and nurses of St. Joseph;s hospital said Koller was drunk on arrival there.

Funeral services for Mr. Kruger were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church with the Rev. George Zimmerman, pastor of the Chili Evangelical church officiating. Surviving, besides the widow and son, Gilbert, is a daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. George Fricke of Milton.

The family has the sympathy of the entire community.

Herman August Kruger, the son of Charles and Ernestina Kruger, was born March 30, 1871 in Germany. The deceased was fatally injured in an automobile accident on Sunday, August 10, while taking a friend to her home in Appleton, this state.

At the age of ten years he, with his parents came to this country from Germany and settled near Coloma, Wis.

He and the now sorrowing companion were married on June 6, 1894 at Coloma.

For ten years he worked as a foreman for the Soo railroad, then moving upon a farm near Coloma, living there for several years, until eleven years ago, the family came to Loyal, Wis. He leaves to mourn his sudden demise, his wife, a son and a daughter, three sisters, one brother, four grand children, besides other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. G. W. Zimmerman of the Evangelical Church at Spokeville of which Mrs. Kruger is a member. V. Zimmerman was assisted by the Rev. Wadding of the M. E. Church of Loyal, in which church the service was conducted. A mixed quartette of the Chili Evangelical Church sang.

Interment took place in the Loyal Cemetery.
