Nason, Letta (10 Dec. 1869 – 29 Sept. 1933)

A telephone message to relatives here brought the information that Mrs. Letta Nason died suddenly of heart trouble in Seattle, Wash., Friday, Sept. 29.

Mrs. Nason was born Letta Harnden in Sheboygan County, Dec. 10, 1869. Her mother died when she was ten years of age, and she was legally adopted by Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Leason and came with them when they moved to Neillsville. She nearly completed the high school course here; but began to teach a few months before graduating. She taught for a time in Montana, returned home and taught in the rural schools in Clark county with such success that she was given a position in Neillsville Schools, where she taught for several years.

In 1897 she was married to Vernon Nason.

About thirty-three years ago she went to Seattle and secured a position in the city schools, where she taught continuously until her death. During nearly all of that time she did special work in reading with ????tain large groups of students.

A remarkable fact of her life in Seattle was that she roomed for nineteen years in the same place, one of the teachers being her roommate during that entire period.

Several of her summer vacations were spent at the Yellowstone National Park where she had a position as hostess in a tourist’s hotel.

Mrs. Nason was a lady of wonderfully fine personality, and won the love and esteem of all who knew her. She met the tasks and trails of life with a cheer and courage that inspired all about her. No adequate estimate can be made of the value such a life has been to the world when we think of the thousands of children she has trained and the culture she has reflected into their homes.

In was a brave, helpful, cheerful life.

She leaves several of her own brothers and sisters, one of whom is well known here, Mrs. Jule Sontag of St. Paul; also two brothers by adoption, Dr. W. A. Leason and Ralph Leason of Neillsville.
