Lipkie, Harold Norman (15 Aug. 1914 – Oct. 1933)

Harold Norman Lipkie, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lipkie, was born in Pine Valley, Aug. 15, 1914. Nearly all of his life had been spent in Neillsville where he attended the grade school and the Neillsville high school, this being his senior year.

No student in high school enjoyed greater respect and popularity than Harold. In his freshman year his classmates honored him with the vice presidency of the class. He was elected president of the sophomore and junior classes and this year as chosen vice president of the senior class. He was a member of the Methodist church, high school Latin Club, the Hi-Y Club and formerly belonged to the Neillsville Boy Scout Troop. D. E. Peters, superintendent of Neillsville schools paid warm tribute to Harold’s character and work as a student.

Harold was keenly interested in athletics and hunting. As a fullback of the high school football team he became one of the most outstanding players, excelling in running, passing and punting. He seemed to find himself in football this year and was playing by far the best football of his career. In his last contest at Stanley Friday he performed brilliantly in every department of the game. Harold took football seriously and worked constantly to perfect himself. As a means of keeping fit and improving his ablility on the football filed Harold formed habit of running through the woods, using the trees as imaginary football adversaries. By seeing how close he could come to a tree without hitting it Harold developed a dodging, changing sort of elusive pace that made him a difficult man to catch, even in a crowded field, and as an open field runner he had no par in the conference.

Harold is survived by his parents and five sisters, Myrtle, Anne, Rosaly, Marcella of Neillsville and Gladys of Cleveland, Ohio.

The funeral is to be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Opera House, Rev. P. B. White officiating.

Classes in the Neillsville high school will be dismissed Friday afternoon so that the students can attend the services, Mr. Peters announced Tuesday.
