Clark was born in England on April 24, 1851 and died at his home in Cannonville on Thursday morning, Dec. 21, 1933, aged 82 years and about eight months. At 6 months of age, his mother having died, Mr. Clark was brought to America with his father. While still a small boy his father died, and he went to live with an uncle at West Point near Lodi, Wis. When Mr. Clark became 14 years of age he hired out on the farm of William Robinson in West Point where he worked for a number of years. On June 19, 1883, just 50 years ago last June, he was married to Mary Emma Miller of Troy near Sauk City, Wis., and they made their home on a farm 1 mile west of Prairie du Sac, Wis. To this union one son was born who was called Morton and who is at home working the farm. One son was adopted whose name was William, and his home is at Fort Atkinson, Wis. In January, 1915, the Clarks came to Clark County and bought a farm in Cannonville where they lived for six years. Since then they have lived in this community continuously except for two years when they lived on a farm north of Neillsville. Mr. Clark has been active most of his life, having good health and knowing the joys and sacrifices of farm life. Five years ago he suffered a stroke of apoplexy, and since then has become gradually weaker until his death on Thursday morning of this week. He is survived by his wife, who has been a faithful companion for 50 years, his two sons mentioned above, and one brother Morton Clark of Chicago. He is mourned by a great many friends. Funeral services were held at the Cannonville church on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 23 at 2 o’clock. The Rev. P. B White officiated, and burial took place at the Wind Fall Cemetery at Granton. |
