Honolulu Scene of Nuptial Rites for Unity Girl

Elsie Carlson Makes Home in Hawaiian Islands

An abundance of Hawaiian flowers-orchids, gardenias, roses and carnations-will grace Central Union church of Honolulu today for the marriage of Miss Elsie Marie Carlson, Unity, Wis., and Joseph Dostal, Honolulu, formerly of Kalstad, Minn.

The ceremony which is planned at 4 o’clock Honolulu time, will be performed during early evening central standard time.

Several hundred island friends of the couple will gather at the church for the nuptial rites which will be said by the Rev. Holmes of Wahiawa, Oahu.

Wears Lei of Pekaki

Miss Carlson has chosen for her wedding a gown of ivory lace and satin, designed with a flounce of satin and a train. She will wear a lace turban. A lei made of strands of Pekaki will be her only flowers.

Two close friends of the couple, Miss Elsie Solberg, Honolulu, and Harry Bodin, Waipahu, Oahu, will serve as maid of honor and best man respectively.

Mr. And Mrs. F. A. Clowes will entertain, following the ceremony, at a garden tea, to which 100 guests have been invited. Many who will attend the reception at the Clowes valley home have lived in Wisconsin before going to Honolulu. Among them will be Miss Alice Sanders, Paul Sanders, Mrs. Mabel Lacy, and Miss Mabel Vernon, Madison, and Cyril Sherwood, Beaver Dam.

Plan Visit Here

Miss Carlson and Mr. Dostal plan a visit to the States in the summer of 1937, at which time they will spend some time with the bride’s mother, Mrs. Anna Carlson, Unity.

The bride is a graduate of Whitewater State Teachers college and has also attended the state universities of Iowa and Minnesota. She is affiliated with Pi Omega Pi sorority. Miss Carlson has been a teacher at Spencer, Menasha and Madison. She spent last year in the islands and returned to Madison last September.

Mr. Dostal received his B. A. degree from the University of South Dakota and his masters degree at the University of Illinois, and has taught in Minnesota. He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa fraternity and is a Royal Arch Mason. The groom is now employed as assistant principal of Leilehua high school, Honolulu. Correspondence may be addressed to Schofield barracks. Their future home is at Waialua, Oahu.
