Robert W. Gropp, 88, Marshfield, died on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Wells Nature View, Marshfield, where he had resided since Nov. 3, 2004. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer. The Rev. Rebekah Jorstad will officiate. Music will be provided by Joan Will, organist, along with congregational singing. Pallbearers will be Jeff Gropp, Steven Gropp, Russ Meyer, Brian Kolb, Al Baierl, Ron Aumann and Rick Risler. Burial will be in the Spencer Cemetery.

Robert W. Gropp was born on Dec. 29, 1916, to Jake and Elizabeth (nee Gessert) Gropp in Wood County, where he attended Marshfield schools. He married Adaline Luther on April 16, 1937. She died on July 6, 1993. After their marriage, they had a dairy farm in the town of Brighton, Marathon County, retiring in 1967. They then moved to the village of Spencer, and he was employed by Dickman Homes, Spencer. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards with family and friends, and cribbage with his hospice friend, David. Each year he looked forward to maple syrup season and picking berries in the summer. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer.

Survivors include two sons DuWayne (Gerry) Gropp, Spencer, and James (Mary) Gropp, Seward, Alaska: seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Russ) Meyer, Jeff (Kim) Gropp, Jackie (Brian) Kolb, Steve (Leesa) Gropp, Laurie (Al) Baierl, Kimberly (Ron) Aumann and Kristina (Rick) Risler; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, one brother, Roy (Malinda) Gropp, Marshfield; and two sisters, Clara Rogers, Marshfield, and Eleanor Schlocker, Milwaukee.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Adaline; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
