--------- Dietsche, Benjamin (24 FEB 1844 – 19 SEP 1930)

Funeral services were held Monday at 9 A.M. form St. Balthasar’s Church for Benjamin Dietsche, Sr., with Father A. J. Aurit officiating.

Mr. Dietsche, who had reached the ripe age of 86, died at his home in the town of Sherman at 12:45 P.M. last Friday after an illness of three months. Burial was made in the local Catholic cemetery.

The deceased was born Feb. 24, 1844, in Baden, Germany, and came to America in 1869. He worked for several years in Cleveland, Ohio, and other cities, later locating at School Hill, Manitowoc county, where he was married Nov. 25, 1973, to Margaret Riplinger of that community, the ceremony taking place in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Coming to Clark county four years later and settling on an 80 acre tract of wild land in the town of Sherman, residing there ever since. Only one mile of road had been built in the vicinity, and groceries and provisions were carried from Neillsville along trails through the woods.

Later he added to his holdings and at the time of his death was owner of 200 acres, comprising one of the finest farms in this community.

He leaves to mourn his loss his aged widow, and six children, namely: Fred of Abbotsford; John of the town of Sherman; Benjamin, Jr. of Riplinger; Mrs. Joseph Davel (Anna) of Loyal; Frank at home, and Mrs. William Brill (Mary) of Colby. One son preceded the father in death, dying at the age of 2 years. He also leaves 34 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.

The deceased was carried to his last resting place by six of his grandchildren.

The bereaved family have our sympathy.
