Obit: Kleinschmidt, Fred (1857 – 1934)
Surname: Kleinschmidt, Jensen, Voelker, Barth, Longenecker Source: Neillsville Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 1 March 1934 Kleinschmidt, Fred (18 Feb. 1857 – 24 Feb. 1934) Fred Kleinschmidt, 77, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kleinschmidt, one of the pioneer settlers of the town of Lynn, passed away at his home at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, Feb. 24. He had been ailing for more than a years, although he was up and around until a few months ago. He was born in a log cabin belonging to the Yankee family Feb. 18, 1857, at the time of his birth his parents having recently arrived in the county and were stopping temporarily at the Yankee home, until the father could build a log cabin of his own. He was the first white child born in Lynn, there being few other settlers here at the time. In 1858, the parents moved into their own tract of 80 acres in Section 1 where they led a pioneer life for years, having to carry provisions on their backs from Neillsville. The school Fred attended had a floor made of split logs. Later he attended school in the log school house on the old Newman place in Section 2. When Fred was old enough he helped clear the parental homestead and later worked at logging in the winter, going on the drive in spring. On March 10, 1891, he married Miss Mary Jensen of Lynn and settled, with his wife, on a tract of land of his own which is now all improved. Four children were born to this union: Edward, Arthur at home; Luella, Mrs. Alvin Voelker of Chili, and Louie, deceased. Deceased led a quiet, peaceful life and was man well known for his honesty and integrity. He was a good citizen, a good father and husband. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, two sons, Edward, and Arthur of Lynn, one daughter, Luella, Mrs. Alvin Voelker of Chili, nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Anna Barth of Fremont, three brothers, Leo and Louie of Lynn and Henry Kleinschmidt of Freindship, Wis., and many other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at his home with Rev. Longenecker of Neillsville officiating. Interment was made at the Lynn Cemetery. Pall bearers will be nephews of the deceased.
