Weddings are an every day occurrence, if not at one place then at another. However to celebrate the golden wedding is a rare event as only a few among the many who get married are privileged to celebrate their golden wedding. On Jan. 18, it was 50 years ago that Mr. and Mrs. William Schilling of the town of Loyal were united in Holy Wedlock. At the hour of 7 P. M. the honored couple were escorted to the place of honor in their farm house. Mr. Schilling wore a dark dress suit which was decorated with a bouquet befitting the occasion and Mrs. Schilling wore a golden wreath which had been passed down to the third generation in her family record. The wedding guests then all joined in singing the hymn of praise: “Lobe den Herrn”; after which the Rev. H. F. Leschensky delivered the Anniversary address, basing his words upon the text: “Abide with us for it is toward evening and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.” Here upon followed the jubilee ceremony after which the guests joined in singing the hymn “Bis Hierher hat mich Gott gebracht.” After congratulating the honored celebrants a bountiful was served to some sixty guests and all can report having had an enjoyable evening. The celebrants were also remembered with a neat purse.

Mr. Wm. Schilling was born at Zachersberg, Germany on the 22nd day of June, 1856. In 1858 in company with his parents they immigrated to the U. S. A. and located in Waukesha county, where they lived Until 1870 and then moved to Jefferson county. Mrs. Schilling, nee Elizabeth Prell was born in Jefferson, Wis., on the 18th day of October 1858. Mr. and Mrs., Schilling are the parents of three children, namely: Albert Schilling of Beaver township; Mrs. Hattie Voss pf Beaver township, and Frank Schilling of Comertown, Montana. Mr. and Mrs., Schilling came to Clark county in 1883, purchasing a 40 acre farm which had 5 acres of clearing. After clearing this he bought another 10 acres of woodland adjoining his land and succeeded in making a fine farm. Just before the world war he sold this farm to Frank Clouse and he then bought another 10 acres of woodland from Frank Shupe, which he improved and built his present farm home.

Mr. and Mrs. Schilling considering their age are still hale and hearty and it is the sincere wish of their many friends and neighbors that they may live to celebrate their diamond jubilee.
