--------- Lafever, M. D. (20 JUN 1850 – 8 JUN 1885)

M. D. Lafever was born in the town of Scott, Sheboygan Co., Wis., June 20th, 1850; was married to Miss Katie Straub, a resident of Sherman, Sheboygan Co., Wis., on the 7th of November, 1872; has made this State his home during life; has lived in this community (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.) about seven years; was in poor health for the last three years and was confined to his bed for the last three months, suffering from liver complaint, but, toward the last quick consumption and he died about midnight, June 8th, 1885.

It was our privilege to visit the suffering but hopeful brother a few days before his death, suffering in this life but hopeful that the Lord would soon send the message that would welcome him to “Sweet Rest in Heaven.”

He leaves a wife and three children to mourn their loss, but they have the assurance that what is their loss is his eternal gain.

The funeral services were conducted at the M. E. Church in Colby by the writer on Wednesday, June 10th, and the last solemn rite of a Christian burial was performed at the grave in the cemetery west of the village. In compliance with a dying request of the deceased, the choir sang at the church the scared song of which the following is a part:

“Loved one have gone before us,

They beckon us away,

O’er serial plains they’re soaring,

Blest in eternal day.”
