Surnames: MCCARTHY FAIRBROTHER Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 04/21/1892 McCarthy, Elizabeth A. (1 SEP 1841 – 20 APR 1892) Died, at her residence in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), on Wednesday, April 20th, 1892, Elizabeth A., wife of William H. McCarthy, in the 51st years of her age. Elizabeth A. Fairbrother was born in Thorp, Leicestershire, England, Sept. 1st, 1841. At the age of three years she came to America with her parents, who located in Palmyra, this state,w here she was united in marriage with W. H. McCarthy, who survives to mourn her loss. Sept. 14th, 1865. In 1876 she came with her husband to Colby and located in the town, on a homestead, where they resided until about eight years ago, when they moved into the limits of the present city. She was the mother of four children (daughters), all of whom are living and mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother. Mrs. McCarthy was a quiet reserved woman, respected by all her acquaintances and loved for her kindly ways, by her more intimate friends, and many will sincerely mourn her death. She had been sick but a week, and on Tuesday afternoon seemed so much better that the only thoughts were that she was recovering, but about two o’clock yesterday morning she began to grow rapidly worse and at seven o’clock breathed her last. The remains were taken on the midnight train, last night, to Palmyra, for interment, accompanied by the entire family, who have the sincere sympathy of the entire community. |
