JANESVILLE - Kathryn R. Palmer, 80, of Janesville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at her home. She was born in Marshfield, WI, on Dec. 2, 1924, the daughter of John William and Marguerite (Kerrigan) Kearns, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BA in Journalism. Kathryn married Wayne B. Palmer of Neillsville, WI. She retired from Parker Pen Company, where she was a secretary in the Patent and Legal Department. Kathryn was fully engaged in life as a volunteer until her death. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville, an active member and former Secretary of the Janesville branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), a devoted volunteer for Mercy Hospital Auxiliary’s Castaway Shop as well as the Janesville Convention and Visitors Bureau; and was a salesperson at Rotary Gardens. Kathryn was an avid crossword puzzler and enjoyed visits to Napa Valley, California’s wine country.

She is survived by her 3 children: Victoria K. Palmer-Erbs (Chu W. Jung) of Arlington, MA, William K. Palmer of Janesville, and Sharon M. Palmer of Bradenton, FL; 3 grandchildren: Evan Palmer Kucera of Florida, Michael W. Palmer of Janesville, and Meaghan J. Palmer Gehri (Rickey Gehri) of Janesville; a sister, Ellen Kearns Kobus of Walnut Creek, CA; a brother, John B. Kearns of Palatine, IL; 2 sisters-in-law, Margery Palmer of Milwaukee and Jesse Palmer of Albuquerque, NM; a brother-in-law, Gerald Palmer of Barnesville, MN; 4 nieces: Pamela and Mary Palmer of Madison, Alice Ruth Palmer Swenson of Barnesville, MN, and Laura Palmer Barfield of Flower Mound, TX; and 2 nephews, Robert Palmer of New Mexico and James Palmer of New Hampshire.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, John B. Palmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2005, at ST. MARY’S Catholic Church , 313 E. Wall St., Janesville. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Neillsville City Cemetery, Neillsville, WI.

Friends may call at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, 1800 E. Racine St., on Sunday from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m., where a wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Rotary Gardens, 1455 Palmer Dr., Janesville.
