Loy, Sylvester (19 MAR 1860 – 22 NOV 1914)

Sylvester Loy died at his home in this city (Neillsville, Clark Co.) Sunday Nov. 22, 1914, aged 54 years, 9 months and 3 days., after a lingering illness from rheumatism and heart disease.

He was born at Monroe, Green Co. in 1860 and came to Clark County with his parents in 1870. He was married to Mary J. St. Claire March 30, 1884, and they have lived in Neillsville and on their farm north of the city ever since. Mr. Loy was a mason by trade and followed that work much of the time. He was a very capable and ingenious workman. He also took much interest in ginseng, gathering the wild plants extensively and also establishing a ginseng garden. He was a genial man with a cheerful greeting for all who knew him, and had no enemies. He leaves his wife and one son, Guy Loy at home, also his step-mother and half-sister, to mourn his death.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. S.B. Pinney preaching the funeral sermon and the Woodmen service, of which order he was an old member, being also used.
