Barnett, Hiram H. (21 MAR 1832 – 10 JUN 1915)

Hiram W. Barnett died at his home in the village of Loyal, Clark County, June 10, 1915, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 21 days. Deceased was born in Jefferson Co., N.Y., March 21, 1832, where he grew to manhood. He came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1854. He drove stage from Manitowoc to Sheboygan during the winter and spring; in the fall of 1855 he settled in the town of Brillion, Calumet Co. He made Wisconsin his home until 1878 and moved to Kansas. In 1891 he came back to Wisconsin and settled on a farm in the town of Weston. In 1913 he moved to Loyal, where he lived until his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Matilda Forman, a sister of C.E. Forman, in 1856. To this union there were three children born, one of whom died when small; one son and daughter are living to mourn his loss. His wife died in 1862. The same year he was united in marriage to Miss Silva Ramsdale of Manitowoc. To this union nine children were born. Seven are still living to mourn his death. On Aug. 14, 1862, he enlisted in Co. E. 21 Inf. Under Capt. H.M. Gibbs, where he served three years. He was wounded on Lookout Mt.; and was in the hospital some time before he was able to return to his regiment.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, and was well liked by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons and seven daughters: Mrs. M. Coghey and Geo. Barnett of Scottsville, Mich.; Mrs. E. Clintsman and Mrs. E. Bremer of Weston; Mrs. E. Shurman of Edgerton; Mrs. Abbie Holt of Pine City, Minn.; Mrs. Alma Babcock of Janesville; Warren and Hattie at home. He is also survived by twenty-eight grandchildren, one brother and one sister living in Michigan, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the M.E. Church, Interment in the Loyal Cemetery, Rev. W.P. Powell officiating.
