Lynn Feutz Caught In Rollers While Aiding Neighbor

Tuesday afternoon of last week, Lynn Feutz, a young man of the town of Washburn, lost his right hand while helping a neighbor, Buster Larsen, shred corn. The accident happened just as the crew was finishing the job. Lynn had been helping clear the rolls where the corn comes out, using his hands for the purpose. Not being familiar with the machine, and noticing that other men had used their hands in the work, he did not realize the danger until his hand was caught. It was found impossible to get his hand out, and the bolts holding the parts of the machine together were so rusted it was difficult to remove them and a sledge was used to break the machine in order to release the hand. He was rushed to the Neillsville hospital where the hand was amputated above the wrist joint by Dr. H. W. Housely. The patient is reported doing well.

Mr. Feutz was graduated from Neillsville High School in 1930. The next year he took the Rural school course at Stevens Point Normal and last year taught at the Cozy Corner School in the town of Fremont. Just at the beginning of this school year he had an attack of appendicitis and was operated at Neillsville hospital. Since recovering from this operation, he had been helping at home or among the neighbors until a teaching position should open up. The news of his last misfortune will arouse the keenest sympathy among his friends and forme school-mates.
