Obit: Budge, William P. (1840 – 1921)
Surnames: BUDGE FLYNN Source: CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN & PRESS (Neillsville, Wis.) 07/28/1921 Budge, William P. (12 AUG 1840 – 27 JUL 1921) “Billy” Budge, a well known resident of Granton, Clark County, Wis., died suddenly at his home Wednesday afternoon, July 27, 1921. He had been up town in the forenoon, apparently as well as usual, but was taken suddenly with heart trouble and died within a few minutes. William Pottinger Budge was born near Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotland, Aug. 12, 1840. He came to America in 1858 and landed in Canada. There he worked on a farm and in lumber camps; coming to Michigan in 1865, he followed the same occupation there till 1867, when he came to Wisconsin. He worked for a time on the Robert Ross farm south of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., and continued to work in camp and on log drives for several years. He bought some wild land in Section 35, town of York, but did not take up his residence there until 1875. He gradually developed a fine farm and became a prosperous farmer, being very successful in raising cattle and sheep. He was a man of high standard of honor, a keen observer, and an interesting talker on many things, especially farming. In 1913 he sold his farm and moved to Granton. For the past few years his health has not been good. Mr. budge never married. One brother, Andrew, came to this country and died at Dickinson, N.D., in 1888. His two sons, Will budge of Minneapolis and George Budge of Eau Claire, and a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Flynn, were frequent visitors of their uncle, the deceased, and were very kind to him. |
