Obit: Kallio, Toivo (1923 – 2002)
Source: MARSHFIELD NEWS HERALD (Marshfield, Wis.) 12/09/2002 Kallio, Toivo (22 JAN 1923 – 7 DEC 2002) OWEN - Toivo Kallio, 79, Owen, died Saturday evening Dec. 7, 2002, at Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Marshfield. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 10, 2002, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Withee. The Rev. Bryan Anderson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jim Petersen, Art Marcott, Gerald Pudlas, Jeremy Guth, Brad Kallio, and Andrew Kallio. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Maurina Funeral Home, Owen and again on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Toivo was born to Andrew and Safira (Oksanen) Kallio on Jan. 22, 1923, in Stambaugh, Mich. At the age of 6 he and his family moved to a farm in the town of Hoard, rural Owen. He was a 1940 graduate of Owen High School. On June 16, 1945, he was married to Grace Pudlas in Curtiss. He worked at Western Condensery in Owen for several years, then in 1950 he took over the family farm. In 1970, he quit farming and went to work for Teledyne Post Co. in Owen. He retired in 1983. Toivo was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing, watching football, basketball, softball, and baseball. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, and he was a former member of the Hoard Center School Board. Toivo is survived by his wife of 57 years, Grace Kallio of Owen; two sons, Ron (Mary) Kallio of Wheeler, Wis. , Dan Kallio of Houston, Texas; one daughter Deb (Ed) Riley of Waukesha, three grandchildren, Kari (Jeremy) Guth of Mondovi, Brad Kallio of Moscow, Idaho, and Andrew Kallio of Eau Claire; one sister Sylvia Petersen of McAllen, Texas; and one daughter-in-law, Teresa Kallio of Eau Claire. Toivo was preceded in death by his parents, a son John, and a sister Lily. |
