Surname: Becken, Behrendt, Miller, Bedrosian, Weinfurtner, Kauffman, Fredrickson, Schjoneman, Decker Source: Scrap book one: by Elsa Lange Hardrath & Dorthaleen Edwards Hardrath Contributed by Halbert “Bud” Hardrath Becken, Mr./Mrs. Halver (Golden – 25 June 1969) Mr. and Mrs. Halver Becken Sr., Colby will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, June 28, with a dinner for about 75 in the Zion Lutheran Church dining hall and a 2 to 5 p.m. reception with live music and dancing at the Colby City Hall. Mrs. Becken will have a corsage of carnations and Mr. Becken a carnation boutonniere for the occasion. They will be joined by one of their original wedding attendants, Thorval Becken. Mr. and Mrs. Becken were married June 25, 1919, at Green Grove by the Rev. A. Behrendt. They lived for a year at Owen and then farmed at Green Grove for 28 years. They then moved to the city of Colby by Colby Cheese Box Corp. until his retirement at age 65 in the Spring of 1958. Mr. Becken was born Dec. 28, 1891, at Curtiss to Martha and Peter Becken. He was educated at Midway and lived in North Dakota and Owen before his marriage. He also served with the U. S. Army and was a member of the Atwood school board for 15 years. His hobbies are fishing, reading and gardening, and he is in fair health. * * * * Mrs. Becken, the former Meta Miller, was born Sept. 1, 1900, in Green Grove to Bertha and Joachim Miller. She received her education at Atwood and Neenah schools. Her hobbies are sewing, reading, camping and traveling, and she enjoys good health. Both she and her husband are affiliated with the Lutheran Church. The honored couple are the parents of seven living children and two deceased, and have 21 grandchildren. Their six daughters and one son are Mrs. Morris (Gloria) Bedrosian, Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Louis (LaMyra) Weinfurtner, Mrs. LaVern (Joyce) Kauffman and Mrs. Ward (Jacinta) Fredrickson, Marshfield; Mrs. Gordon (Darlene) Schjoneman, Coos Bay, Ore.; Mrs. Russel (June) Decker, Caledonia, and Halver Becken Jr., Milwaukee. * * * * * Their other two sons were Hilmer Miron, who died at one day of age, and Percy Ervin, who was born Oct. 3, 1921, and was killed Feb. 4, 1942. Guests at the celebration are expected from Illinois, Arizona, Michigan, and various places in Wisconsin. * Date was noted in the margin. * * * * Another clipping Mr. and Mrs. Halver Becken Sr., 515 N. Second St., Colby, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 28. Dinner was served at noon for 75 relatives at Zion Lutheran Church there and open house was held from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Colby City Hall. Halver Becken was born to Peter and Martha Becken Dec. 28, 1891, in the town of Midway. He was educated near Curtiss and lived and worked in North Dakota and at Owen prior to his marriage. He also served with the U. S. Army during World War I. After their marriage he farmed at Green Grove for 28 years. He served on the Atwood School Board for 15 years and moved to Colby in 1947 to be employed by Cheese Box until retirement in 1958. His hobbies are fishing, reading and gardening. Meta Becken, whose parents were Joachim and Bertha Miller, was born at Green Grove Sept. 1, 1900. She attended school at Atwood and Neenah. Her hobbies are sewing, reading, camping and traveling. The Beckens had nine children, one of whom died as an infant. Another, son Percy, was killed in 1942 at the age of 21. The remaining children are: Mrs. Morris (Gloria) Bedrosian, Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Louis (LaMyra) Weinfurtner, Marshfield; Mrs. LaVern (Joyce) Kauffman, Marshfield; Mrs. Ward (Jacinta) Fredrickson, Marshfield; Mrs. Gordon (Darlene) Schjoneman, Coos Bay, Ore.; Halver Becken Jr., Milwaukee; and Mrs. Russel (June) Decker Caledonia. There are 21 grandchildren.
