In Cobb County, Ryan Smith, 21, a Mableton died early Thursday after he lost control of his Chevrolet pickup while rounding a curve on Clay Road and crashed into two utility poles, Colby County police spokesman Robert Quigley said. The accident occurred about 1 a.m. near the intersection with Flint Hill Road in Austell. Smith was driving too fast for the curve, Quigley said. The truck crossed into the opposite lane and spun sideways before striking the utility poles. The impact toppled one of the poles, and emergency crews had to remove it before extricating Smith from the pickup. >>>> In a similar accident involving excessive speed, 16 year old Loren Robin Larson of Lilburn was killed after being ejected from his car in a crash on Rockbridge Road south of Gwinnett County. The accident occurred at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday apparently near Ashley Drive, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Joy Horton said. Larson’s 1990 Nissan 240SX left the pavement as he rounded a curve and struck a driveway culvert, causing the car to flip at least three times, Horton said. Larson was pronounced dead at the scene.
