BioM: Young, Etta (1897)
Surnames: GRIMES YOUNG Source: COLBY PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Wis.) 08/26/1897 Young, Etta (19 AUG 1897) Married, at the residence of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Young, on Thursday morning, Aug. 19th, 1897, Mr. John J. Grimes and Miss Etta Young, both of this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), Rev. S. A Hoffman officiating. The ceremony uniting this happy couple, was performed about nine o’clock, Thursday morning, while Mr. Grimes’ fellow members of the band were waiting for him to go to the I.O.O.F. picnic. But he had stolen a march on them. There were present, beside the officiating clergyman, only relatives and Mr. Bredemeyer’s family. After the ceremony and customary congratulations, the young couple prepared for the train, expecting to get away before their secret was out, but they reckoned without their host, as someone got into the fact and marshaled a good force at the depot and as they boarded the train, showered them with rice. They went from here to St. Paul; from there, by steamboat, to La Crosse; by rail to Kilbourn, where they spent a day at the Dells; then on to Milwaukee; from there they go to Stevens Point to visit Mrs. Grimes, senior; then home, where they will be made to think they are just married. The above couple are counted among our best beloved young people. Mr. Grimes was reared here from childhood, (from babyhood we might say,) having come here with his parents about twenty years ago; for a number of years he has been with F. Bredemeyer and a portion of that time, has had full charge of the business; he has a large circle of friends. Miss Young was also one of Colby’s favorites, having grown to womanhood in our midst; she was a graduate of Colby High School, class of ’95, and has been enrolled among our most successful teachers since, and, like her hubby, counts her friends by the score, all of whom wish this happy couple a long life and a merry one, and a prosperity cup full to the brim. But it will take a whole box of perfectos to square up with the Phonograph. |
