Bracht, Barbara (27 AUG 1853 – 6 MAY 1898)

Died, at her home in the town of Hull, Marathon, Co., Wis., on Friday May 6th, 1898, of paralysis of the heart, Barbara, beloved wife of Richard A.W. Bracht, in the 45th years of her age.

Barbara Drott was born at Sheboygan Falls, Aug. 27th, 1853, where she continued to reside until the first of Dec, 1881. At that time she came to the town of Hull to visit her sister, Mrs. John Roth, who was a resident of the town at that time. Here she met Mr. Bracht and a mutual attachment sprang up between them, which soon ripened into an affection that led to their marriage on the 25th day of the same month. It proved to be a happy union, and Mr. and Mrs. Bracht seemed to live for each other. As no children blessed this union, they adopted a daughter upon whom Mrs. Bracht lavished the affection of an own mother, and who survives to mourn the loss of as true and loving mother as a daughter ever had.

Mrs. Bracht was taken sick about the first of March with la grippe, but from this attack had so far recovered as to be able to sit up a portion of each day and meet with the family at the midday meal. On Friday she seemed in better spirits and sat up a little longer than usual. Just after dinner she complained of fatigue, said she felt dizzy and was assisted to her bed. At about two o’clock she raised up and said she was fainting and dropped back onto the pillows. Mr. Bracht’s sister called to him that Mrs. Bracht had fainted, he immediately went to her bedside but found she had fallen asleep in that long eternal sleep that know no waking.

The funeral occurred at the M. E. Church in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), Rev. S. A. Hoffman officiating, and the remains were interred in Colby Cemetery. They were escorted to that last resting place by a large concourse of people, attesting the esteem in which she was held.

Mrs. Bracht leaves to mourn her loss, besides her devoted husband and adopted daughter, 4 brothers and 1 sister, all of whom will have the full sympathy of this entire community.
