Borden, Sarah J. (22 NOV 1849 – 19 AUG 1900)

Died, at her residence in the east ward (Colby, Wis.), on Sunday, Aug. 19th, prostration from heat, Sarah J., wife of J.E. Borden, in the 51st year of her age.

Sarah J. Gilford was born in Farmington, Washington Co., Wis., Nov. 22nd, 1849, she was there united in marriage with John Mahoney and came with him at an early date and settled on Section 26, town of Hull, Marathon Co. In the fall of 1878 Mr. Mahoney returned to Washington Co. on business, and while there was taken sick and died in November 1878, leaving his wife and two children, a son and a daughter In November 1874 (must be 1879 or 1884), she was united in marriage with John E. Borden, who survives her. She has resided for thirty years in the town of Hull or this city, with the exceptions of about three years spent in Florida. She was a kind motherly woman and had many friends who will mourn her sudden demise. She leaves, besides her husband, two children, Frank Mahoney and Mrs. Math Hennes, of Cowles, Nebr., three brothers, Edward Gilford of Cowles, Nebr., John Gilford of Farmington and James Gilford of Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis., and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Shafer of Unity, Wis., all of whom have the sympathy of the entire community.

Mrs. Borden has, for many years, been a member of Isaac N. Earl Corps, W.R.C., and hers is the first death that has occurred in that body.

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church, yesterday afternoon, Rev. E.G. Vischer officiating.
