Edward Hartung officiated at the marriage ceremony for Miss LaVern Elizabeth Abel of Greenwood, and Timothy Roger Martens of Milwaukee, who were married Saturday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Abel and Mrs. Charles Shefchik of Greenwood are parents of the bridal couple. Yellow gladioli decorated the church altar. The choir of St. Mary’s Church sang. Miss Abel carried a bouquet of yellow roses with streamers of rose buds as she was escorted to the altar by her father. She wore a dress of Chantilly lace with a net panel front, sweetheart neckline, and long sleeves. A crown of seed pearls held the bridal veil. Miss Nancy Scherer attended the bride as maid of honor. Miss Judy Martens, Miss Shirley Abel, and Miss Donna Auman, all of Greenwood, were bridesmaids. Sharon Auman was flower girl and wore a dress similar to the bride’s with a yellow sash and carried a bouquet of yellow roses. The bridal attendants donned dresses of yellow nylon voile over net and taffeta with white eyelet cummerbunds. Headpieces were tiny crowns of nylon net and flowers. They carried ring-shaped bouquets of tiny yellow feathered carnations tied with yellow ribbons. Ted Martens attended his brother as best man. Tom Stiefvater, Greenwood, Stanley Adler, Marshfield, the groom’s cousin, and Dick Abel, the bride’s brother, were groomsmen. Brothers of the groom, William Martens and Bert Martens were ushers. All wedding day events were held at the Willard Hall at Willard. They were a dinner, reception, supper, and dance. Mr. and Mrs. Martens are graduates of Greenwood High School. He is employed as a machinist in Milwaukee. After a wedding trip through southern Wisconsin they will reside at 2250 S. 23rd St., Milwaukee. |
