Obit: Peckham, Bert C. (1863 – 1906)
Surnames: PECKHAM GLASS Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 09/20/1906 Peckham, Bert C. (15 OCT 1863 – 9 SEP 1906) Bert C. Peckham died at Cripple Creek, Colo., on Sunday, Sept. 9th, 1906, of apoplexy, after an illness of only four days. Thomas E., his brother, who went there to accompany the remains home, arrived in Abbotsford, Wis. with the body last Sunday, Sept. 16th, and was met by the members of Colby Lodge I.O.O.F. and escorted to the residence of the aged mother, Mrs. Emiline Peckham. The funeral was held from the church in Abbotsford, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Andrews, and the remains laid at rest beside those of his father in the Dorchester Cemetery, brother Odd Fellows acting as pallbearers. Robert C. Peckham was born at Dale, Wis., Oct. 15th, 1863; he came with his parents to Marathon Co., settling in the town of Holeton, thirty-three years ago. Nineteen years ago he left for the far West, which country has since been his home, the past six years being spent in Seward, Alaska, where he was interested in mining property. He was on his way home for a visit to his mother and brothers when taken sick at Cripple Creek. He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, Cataldo, Idaho, and was cared for by Cripple Creek Brothers during his short illness. His mother, Mrs. Emiline Peckham, Abbotsford, a sister, Mrs. Eliza Glass, Kaukauna, three brothers, Wm. H. and Thomas E., town of Holeton, and Edwin, Kennedy, Minn., survive him, and wish us to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Odd Fellows of Cripple Creek and Colby and to others who assisted during Bert’s sickness, death and burial.
