O’Brien, Violet Lilly (27 Sept. 1906 – 1 April 1935)

Miss Violet Lilly O’Brien, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William O’Brien, whose tragic death occurred early Monday morning, was born Sept. 27, 1906, in the Town of York. She attended the Oriols School from which she and in 1927; she was graduated from the Neillsville School. For the past seven years she has been employed at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Harry Vedder at Marshfield.

Miss O’Brien is survived by her parents and two brothers and two sisters, Harold and Robert and Genevieve, all of whom live at the O’Brien residence on North Hewett Street, and Mrs. Lyle Sischo of Wisconsin Rapids. Miss O’Brien was a young lady of exceptional personal charm and beloved by all who knew her. She was particularly devoted to her home here and spent nearly every weekend with her parents. She came Sunday afternoon to make her customary visit and according to Mr. and Mrs. O’Brien, seemed happier than she had been for some time, enjoying every moment of her visit. In the evening she accompanied her sister, Genevieve, and a group of young people to Keller’s Silver Dome ball room. It was on her return from the dance that death struck with such unexpected swiftness.

The entire community was deeply shocked by the news of her death and that of her young escort, and the deepest sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved families.

The funeral was held this afternoon (Wednesday) from the residence at 2 p.m. and from the Congregational church at 2:30 p.m., Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the rites. Burial was in the Neillsville Cemetery. Gertrude Northup, Christine Jepsen, Polly Wittke and Dorrene Zuege, were the flower girls.

Relatives and friends who came from out of the city to attend the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. Harry Vedder of Marshfield, J. P. Lastofsky, uncle of Wisconsin Rapids, Clifford Parrett, cousin, Wisconsin Rapids, T. J. O’Brien and son, Earl., Minneapolis; William Lambert, Taylor; Martin O’Brien and Mr. and Mrs. Leon O’Brien and son and Layton O’Brien of Rockford, Ill.; and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Krepjci of Augusta.
