Jackson, Claudia (DEC 1877 – 13 NOV 1907)

Died, at her home in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.) at 9 o’clock, Wednesday morning, Nov. 13th, 1907, of acute indigestion with other complications, Claudia Freeman, beloved wife of F.M. Jackson, aged 29 years and 11 months.

Seldom has it been our duty to record so sudden a death. A dark gloom spread over the whole community when it was whispered from one to another Wednesday forenoon that “Claudia was gone.”

She was of an affectionate disposition, bright and winning in her ways, so that friendship’s circle was to her a large one. Indeed, it may be said of her, that “none knew her but to love her.”

Only a few years ago she was married to F.M. Jackson of this place, whom she leaves with three small children, to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Jackson’s sickness was of but a brief duration, only a few hours. Seemingly with us today, active in life’s round of duty and love, but gone tomorrow.

Here she played as a child, developed into beautiful girlhood; here she married and helped to establish a home of her own; here her busy life was spent, her battles fought, her faithful service rendered to the world. In this dearest of all places to her, she lies down at length to sleep and rest. Beautifully appropriate such a resting place, where her kindred sleep and where many of her lifelong friends remain to gather about the dear form with honest tears of bereavement, to lay her away tenderly in the narrow house with its curtains of fadeless green.

To her the struggle and burden bearing of earth are ended, and we confidently trust that like one who awakes from a trouble dream she has awakened to see life’s endless morning break and know herself at home with all the vast throng of loved ones, missed from earth, safe about her.

Among us all she ranked always as a woman of culture, refinement, sympathy, a kind neighbor, devoted wife and mother, and a true friend, and withal a woman of heroic mould in bravely meeting the stern requirements and often the disappointments of life.

Funeral services will be held at the M.E. Church, Saturday forenoon at 10:30, after a short service at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. D.R. Freeman. Interment at Colby Cemetery.
