Salter, Hortense (SEP 1910)

Married, at the residence of the bride’s parents in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), by Rev. John A Stemen of Stevens Point, Mr. Charles R. Freeman of Menomonie, and Miss Hortense M. Salter.

The rooms and tables were simply but tastily decorated with flowers and autumn leaves, the flowers being of the sturdy variety of the season, asters, geraniums, sweet peas and roses, their gracious perfume pervading the atmosphere, and giving the touch of color that pleases the eyes the dining room and hall being in pink and white and sitting rooms in red with smilax decorating chandeliers and festooning the arch, under which the ceremony was performed.

The bride was clad in a simple gown of white, and the groom in the conventional black.

The guests from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Freeman and daughter of Menomonie, parents and sister of the groom: J.W. Salter and wife of Unity; President J.F. Sims and wife of Stevens Point; Principal Roy Blackman and wife of Abbotsford; Miss Fermine Engelhard, West Bend; Richard, Harold and John Salter, brothers of the bride.

Mr. Charles Freeman is a graduate of the Menomonie High School, of the Universtiy of Wis. in both the academic and legal requirements, and for two years was a student at the Chicago Art Institute. At present he has a partnership in his father’s law business, and holds the office of City Attorney in Menomonie. A young man of unimpeachable character, courteous manners, broad, accurate scholarship, with keen sense of the duties and responsibilities of his chosen profession. His is a personality of strength, resolution and promise.

Hortense Salter, his bride, is a graduate of Colby High School, of the River Falls Normal School, and for a time attended the University of Wisconsin. She is a young lady of splendid personality, and of more than average ability, having filled responsible positions in the schools of Prentice, Colby, Ellsworth and Menomonie, resigning from the Menomonie Agricultural school in June. Those of us who have known her from childhood have watched her career of progress with pardonable pride, for she is as good as she is able, as sensible as she is cultured, and as modest as she is deserving.

The Phonograph, in making chronicle of this union of young happy hearts in the bonds of holy matrimony, gives publicity to the heartfelt sentiment of the entire community in extending its warmest congratulations, and its sincere prayers for a future of happiness to the young people who will make their abiding place at Menomonie.
