Campbell, Sarah Jane (17 Sept. 1856 – 6 Feb. 1936)

Sarah Jane Kendall was born at Oconomowoc, Wis., Sept. 17, 1856, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Kendall, and died at her home in Neillsville, Wis., on Thursday morning, Feb. 6, 1936, aged 79 years.

On September 25, 1878, she was married to Harvey Campbell, and almost immediately they went to Liberty, Nebr., where they lived on a farm.

In the year 1885 they returned to Oconomowoc where they lived on the farm of Mr. Campbell’s father for a period of about 15 years.

In the year 1889 they moved to Clark County and bought an 80-acre farm in the Town of Weston which was their home until 1919, when Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Campbell retired and came to Neillsville.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Campbell; Ethel, Mrs. Roscoe Brown of the Town of Weston; Alta, Mrs. A. M. Robbins of Tenino, Wash.; Hannah, Mrs. Wm. Bohnsack of the Town of Weston and Ernest of this city.

Mrs. Campbell was a good mother and wife through many years. She was a very energetic person, always ready to carry her share of responsibilities, and even in the closing weeks of her life, with real will power she continued to be up and around as usual, though gradually losing strength. Though frail body, her spirit has always been strong.

She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a most conscientious Christian. Whenever she was able to go, she was a faithful attendant at the services of worship.

Mrs. Campbell’s husband preceded her in death in the fall of 1932. She is survived by her four children named above: by two sisters, Mrs. C. C. Crandall of St. Paul, Minn.; and Mrs. Geo. Spark, of Indianapolis, Ind.; by one brother, Byron Kendall of Chicago, Ill.; by 15? Grandchildren; and by six great-grandchildren and mourned by many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. P. B. White officiating, and burial took place in the local cemetery. Plans had been made to hold the funeral Saturday, but the blizzard forced a postponement to Tuesday.
