Gibson, Catherine (28 Sept. 1852– 26 Jan. 1936)

Mrs. Catherine Gibson, wife of the late Joseph Gibson, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. T. Kennedy. She was past 83, having reached that age Sept. 28, 1935.

Mrs. Gibson was born near Cleveland, Ohio, but spent most of her life in Wisconsin. She taught school at La Crosse, but after her marriage to Mr. Gibson, a pioneer lumberman of that state and Minnesota, she with her husband, moved to Clark County, then a dense wooded area with very few inhabitants. Here she lived a typical pioneer life for many years while her husband conducted extensive lumbering operations. During the past 25 years Mrs. Gibson had lived most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Kennedy, making frequent short visits to her old home in Wisconsin.

A lovable and kindly lady, she endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact, having a host of warm friends both at Fortson and in Wisconsin. Her passing marks the close of a long and useful life.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Chas. T. Kennedy, of Fortson; by three grandsons, Joseph Gibson of Fortson, Stanley S. Gibson of Medford, Wisconsin, and Stewart B. Gibson of Canoga Park, Calif.; and two last named being twins, by one granddaughter, Katherine E. Gibson of Hollywood, Calif., and by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lee W. Gibson, of Los Angeles, who was at her bedside when she passed away, having arrived from Los Angeles two weeks before her death; also by four great-grandchildren, the two sons and two daughters of the twin grandchildren mentioned, Stanley and Stewart Gibson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Moll’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Fish of the Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Seattle, officiating. Burial was by cremations at Washeili, and her ashes will be laid to rest beside those of her husband and only son at Medford, Wisconsin.
